"Adding a premium TV channel to your cable subscription can cost $10 to $15 a month, in contrast to Netflix for as little as $9 a month." That quote is garbage. Where I'm from, Charter charges $50 as the lowest package... the first 30 channels for $50 a month.... Down with cable! I would love nothing more... PS do you know how many channels I get with that stupid digi antenna???? TWO!!! TWO CHANNELS! THIS IS MADNESS

We have had Netflix for about 10 years and while I still love it, they have made several mistakes lately in dealing with their customers. Taking the friends feature away has been a huge negative for many people and they don't seem to care at all. Another down side that I see to their customer service is the complete absence of an email address. The only way to get in touch with the company is to call, and many people in this tech savvy age don't want to deal with that.Bottom line: Netflix is great, but they are making some big mistakes where customers are concerned.

decent video card - $70, one time expensedvi-hdmi cable w/ stereo sound cable included - $40, one time expensemid-level internet service - $50/monthBefore that, I was paying $140 a month for bundle w/ basic cable, and only watched Bravo and the science channel.Until the cable giants realize that their prices are no longer competitive for all but exclusive, ultrahigh quality content - I'm talking shows like LOST not shows like Californication and Weeds; of which there are none on basic networks - Netflix and Hulu aree going to eat deep into their earnings.

The problem is not HBO but the cable company who is charging a much higher price for basic cable packages than for premium channels. Add in that they are not offering 1/3 of the deals they used to.

HBO should remember what happened with music: not so much piracy as the realization by most adult consumers that most new media isn't 'high quality'. With the decline of broadcast of all types, it's easier and easier to find quality. And if I don't watch it new, what's the big deal? No one stands around the water cooler talking about TV anymore, we're too fractured for anything but sports.

Hooray, some serious competition for cable companies. I hope Netflix kicks them in the booty. For too long they have had a lock on high priced services. I recall when my monthly cable bill was under $50. Now, on average it is $125 monthly.

HBO is failing to take part in the new innovations that customers demand. They can hold on to those hit movies and shows, but the fan fare and publicity will be gone too. Or, they can just start dropping their high prices to get HBO. HBO and the rest of those channels are too expensive and I'm glad to see them finally get competition.

"it's still no snap to stream shows from the Web to the living room TV". I have a dvd player with BD live and WIFI. IT includes Netflix software. I connect to the web with the DVD WIFI and watch movies. You can also run an thernet cable to the DVD player.

HBO is making a big mistake here limiting itself to any distribution channels outside of cable or satellite. And especially by requiring a cable or satellite subscription.I think Time Warner investors should demand that HBO be spun off so that there is no conflict of interest between Time Warners other (cable) businesses. That way investors can demand that HBO maximize profits in what ever channels exist.Beyond the interest of the consumer this is really bad business!

"it's still no snap to stream shows from the Web to the living room TV"? Baloney! I place my laptop near my flatscreen. I plug the VGA cord into my laptop. I stream directly from the Netflix site (and others) to my flatscreen. (I am a great-grandmother, and streaming IS a snap!
