Halee Nov 4, 2009 4:51 PM GMT Verizon had there chance to sell iPhone, and they turned it down. Verison has a larger variety in phones. For now verizon is pretty far ahead. There is just one iPhone but there are many phones just like it. They aren't saying what the difference in the products are, they just say that the android has more apps. But which of they two will be a better product? Or which of the to is going to get better service or even better quality

ipTVevangelist Oct 31, 2009 9:30 AM GMT Having had the original T-Mobile G1 I can attest to it being a solid OS and with a robust app store, the HTC device was cheaply made however, and of more import the network was a compromise as is the case now with AT&T and the user experience iPhone users are dealing with now as the network groans under its weight. Back on Verizon, I find it stable and reliable if not the most exciting devices, this change is welcome by me and the Android OS could give Apple a run for its money if a perfect storm of user experience, the apps continue to grow and also developers port their existing iPhone apps to the Droid. Also, the devices need to be well made to compete with a slick and nice form factor in the iPhone. HTC needs to improve their fit and finish which is really poor. Btw, as to Verizon using a new marketing approach..not really. Back in 2003 while at Yahoo! we used the Reuters billboards in NYC to showcase real-time searches for the launch of a TV campaign..

mark Oct 30, 2009 3:29 PM GMT Simple question which I haven't been able to find a answer for...is it Mac compatible? We have Verizon now but use Mac computers for home and work, so logically we should get a Iphone, but we don't want to switch to AT@T. We use Blackberries now, but with crappy 3rd party software.

WilD Oct 30, 2009 1:41 AM GMT This will shape up the same way as Mac vs. PC. Closed vs. open platform. Apple must transform its app store quickly into a profit center compatible with multiple platforms or the iPhone risks being marginalized for years to come as the mass international and business markets adopt competitor devices/platforms

romgen Oct 29, 2009 8:27 PM GMT With Droid being EVDO/CDMA only for Verizon this device, at best, is going to be a consumer-only device. If Verizon - and Motorola - had wanted a real winner they would have made it a global phone, putting in GSM/UMTS capability. Global corporations will see this device and say "doesn't work for us". The chiefs at both companies should both get fired for lack of thought.

jbelkin Oct 29, 2009 8:24 PM GMT If the DROID ad is an indication, they are in for a long slow quarter. Clearly, the product VP wishes he's releasing a transformer movie - good idea to confuse people. Sure, the 1% of people get it but typical product VP more interested in being pitched an expensive showy ad than one that sells product. Plus will Verizon really want to brand a phone that is avaialble EVETYWHERE and the Google name? While everyone loves search, how far does the Google name travel? How well did Google Video do against its own YouTube? Android is going to be advertised by 20 companies each with their own message and phone - ANd each with its own agenda plus NO iTunes. It will do fine aginst WINMobile and Palm but it's clearly "the other" OS after Apple & Blackberry.

Dar Oct 29, 2009 7:35 PM GMT Minor clarification: News reports are the Droid will be $300 and you have to go through the hassle (and delay) of processing the $100 rebate. I love Google's products. I love Apple's products. I suggest people shop around and pick the device they like the best and not worry so much about what the other person is using. I would also be concerned that Droid will be crippled by Verizon like so many other Verizon phones. AT&T and Apple have a similar problem.
