Splitting the company sounds good. But, how about slash 50% of all vehicle cost and sell remaining inventories. Keep all incentives in force. Get rid of Saturn, Hummer Pontiac. Merge those into other dealerships to reduce inventory.

Maybe all the crippling union contracts can be attached to the "bad GM".

you can't just eliminate trucks and suv's

I see all of these posts about eliminating "gas guzzling" trucks and suv's. Has everyone forgotten about the recreational vehicle industry? Without these large vehicles, rec. vehicle sales, the tourism industry, and parks would all suffer. You need these vehicles to pull boats, trailers, and jet ski's. A family who has a need for a large truck or suv is still going to buy one, so companies like Hummer, and GMC are still very important.

The Pontiac division wasn't mentioned in either company. I would hope that with all Pontiac has to offer - performance (read gas guzzling) cars with hideous snouts, they most likely would end up in the "Bad" GM. Good riddence to the division that spawned the Aztek!

No offense Ron, but not all of GMs cars are the "best". But the midsize family sedan called Chevy Malibu? Excellent alternative to the Camry/Accord. Now is the time to put brand snobbishness down and buy a Malibu because it's a great car that won't let you down. That does not mean buy any GM product. It means read Consumer Reports Magazine and do your research. The Malibu, Cadillac CTS and other will not disappoint.

I agree with Mr. Schimon's comment that it's time the American People stand behind GM! While I don't work in the Automotive Industry, I believe our country will decline without GM or Ford in our future. I drive both GM and Ford vehicles, and bought these cars because they were better than the competition!

It is time the American people realize that General Motors is an American company which supports MILLIONS of jobs in the United States. We have the opportunity to stand behind General Motors and purchase General Motors products. Please ask yourself, "Why am I or someone I know out of work, or facing a potential layoff but I drive a Toyota, Honda, Nissan, BMW, KIA or other non-American car company vehicle"? General Motors is producing the BEST vehicles in the world with respect to QUALITY, STYLING, INNOVATION, SAFETY, FUEL ECONOMY, PRICING, RELIABILITY, PERFORMANCE, etc. Yes, I am a General Motors employee for over 25 years and proud of it. I am very appreciative of being an American and supporting my COUNTRY. The United States is the greatest country in the world and General Motors is a major contributor to the jobs of the MEN & WOMEN in this fine country. In my opinion, letting General Motors fail is turning your back on this country. I ask the American people to please support General Motors as we reorganize, revitalize, and regain our position as the Automotive Leader! Together we CAN!

I don't get it. Saturn is the only American named car we buy because it has everything we like about foreign cars and little of the baggage of domestics. This was again the first innovative brand since the Corvair, and again is being martyred. Warranty or not, we'll probably keep buying Saturns until the inventory is gone and then go to Subaru, the only other car we like.
