I've been a Merrill Lynch customer for 20 years and my father for 35 years before me......however, after what I've seen with the scandals and the downfall of the company, I have finally figured out what the higher costs (stock trading) Merril Lynch charged went to. Stan O'Neals (and others like him) personal island, yachts, country clubs, etc. If I only knew then what I know now....

Investment clubs are an excellent way to start into the DIY method of investing. DIY investors can also discuss BetterInvesting techniques, as well as diversifying in ETFs, at the Investing For Growth forum on Compuserver (http://community.compuserve.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?webtag=ws-naic&redirCnt=1). It costs nothing to read all discussions; a free login is needed to post messages.

People need to take care of their own money. There are not a lot of honest and capable (Warren Buffet is one) money people, as the current "crisis" shows. These people think that they know how to line their own pockets, and currently are doing so by "taking" from individual investors. Check out optionsinvestin.wordpress.com to start your education.
