Gary Bettman gets way too much praise here. He almost killed the league on his watch while relegating the games to a channel few get. Gretz, please take over and return the NHL to its top 4 position among U.S. pro sports leagues.

3. David SternNow if only he'd use his power for good, instead of evil (or cronies who want to drag teams out of good markets).

Nice try, but you get popularity confused with "power". Tiger is not bigger than his sport, nor is any other athelete that is named above the respective commissioners and, especially, TV executives (since TV really does drive the sports vehicle).

Do you really mean to tell me that Tom Brady and Peyton Manning make the list but Brett Favre Doesn't. Last I checked, Favre is the 2nd most marketable player in the NFL behind Manning. Plus he's an living legend in the NFL.

How can you not include Valentino Rossi within the Global 25? The MotoGP superstar just garnered his 8th world title and is considered the best roadracer of all time. He is a sports icon in most every country except the US. Shame on you!

Second the Valentino Rossi! He is inside the top 10 for highest paid athlete in the world. He hold plenty of motorcycle racing records. What is Italy's most popular sport? MOTORCYCLE RACING!!! Motorcycle racing finally passed soccer with the insane popularity of Rossi. There isn't an Italian that doesn't know his name or a Spaniard. He has more endorsements than Serena Williams and you put her on the top 100! Oh and the things he has done for MotoGP safety wise are respectable. He is the most popular person in motorcycle racing.....he even has tested the Ferrari F1 car and driven in rallies!

Valentino Rossi anyone? He earned an estimated 31 million in 2007, and recently clenched his fifth MotoGP championship. Oh, and he's practically worshipped in Italy and most of Europe.
