Has everyone noticed that OPEC announced a reduction in OIL PRODUCTION last night.I guess the floor for oil pricing is going to be about $120 (120 McDonald double cheeseburgers) per barrel.Well, the US oil refineries have been reducing production for 6 weeks now. The question is how much more reduction in the US oil consumption can be achieved?

Exactly what I've been waiting for.I've bought Fords for 45 years, I currently own 5, including a powerstroke deisel.My son purchased a VW Jetta TDI diesel and WOW- 50 MPG, and kicks butt.I truly purchase made by an American companey cars, and told my son if Ford ever built/sold a deisel like the Jetta, I would buy it in a hartbeat (pun). I think they are missing the boat in Amarica on this and should look closer at the market.

As the the American lack of appetite for high mileage clean diesel automobiles-are you kidding? I thought the name of the game was to anticipate consumer desires! A HINT-PEAK OIL It matters not if peak oil is real, if there is oil in Anwar etc. It matters that The Governments of the world are proceeding accordingly and price moving forward will increase ergo stronger and faster consumer shift toward alternatives to standard gasoline powered vehicles. Bunch of morons that cant see the big picture can they?Even if they dont make a lot of money on the first ones they sell. The publicity alone and the clamor for more would be deafining. And lobbists could use it as a argument to reduce the Diesel Tax in the US...Oh well what do i know

Many here probably do not remember the disaster known as the GM diesel engine, that was foisted onto the American public with disasterous results back in the late 70's. GM slapped diesel heads and pistons on a gasoline 350 V8, and dropped it into varoius cars and 1/2 ton trucks. This thing quickly grew a reputation of self destructing in an explosive manner. GM chose back then to refuse to back their products. On top of this, they lopped two cylinders off of that engine, and dumped into Buicks, to have a 4.3L V6 diesel. 3/4 and 1 ton trucks got a detroit diesel derived V8 that couldn't keep a functioning fuel pump on it to save it's life. GM owned about half of the U.S. market back then, so they alienated a massive number of the public to diesels. VW back then didn't build a very good diesel either for much of the same reasons. This is why the American pulic is wary of diesels, and why automakers are heistant to bring them back into the U.S. market.

Like the (Ford) man said, ..we decided not to .. produce diesel cars for the US market. There is a state-of-the-art Ford engine plant that I have been in, in Chihuahua (city), MX cranking out diesel engines for some(?) market!Try a google of "ford diesel engine plant in mexico may 31, 2008

Volkswagen has been selling the compact diesel in the US for years! I've never understood US automakers. The Diesel is such amazing engine. I've been running BioFuel in my truck and it's great. Americans are backwards, too!! Screw the fashionable Hybrid! It still uses gas, and that's all it can use. The diesel can use anything (algae, veggie, etc) and still gets better MPG. AND they last longer than the gas engine!! Go figure.

Leave it to the automakers to once again come up with a sorry excuse as to why they wont bring an extremely efficient vehicle to the US. Most European driven cars get an average of 15-20 MGP better than the U.S. versions. Coincidence that most are diesels? I think not. WAKE UP AMERICA.
