Amy Luna Manderino May 17, 2011 12:08 PM GMT The provacative nature of the word "Cougar" has helped to bring media attention to a growing trend in alternative relationships, but the "predator" connotation is really a misnomer. Historically, women have been forced to depend on men for economic survival, an inequality which created an adversarial "predator/prey" model for human sex and relationships. Economically independent older women no longer fall in the category of "prey," so...they must be "predators," right? Wrong. We are outside the predator/prey model because we don't need to play those tired roles which, from what I hear from younger men, is precisely why older women are desirable partners. I am not a "Lady Predator." I am one of many women who partner from a place of independence, not co-dependence, and considerations of age, race, religion or ethnicity need not influence our choices any longer. Media insistence on focusing on the sexual aspects of older women/younger men relationships, although sensational, trivializes the important shift occurring in our society regarding how and why men and women choose their partners.

Mind over matter...think BIG and have no barriers!But keep in mind, if people are going down this path, gals or guys, you better be ready and be fit! Strategery May 14, 2011 10:21 PM GMT It's funny what a big deal society makes over a woman dating a younger man, but reverse the roles and it's a non-issue. Also, the Hollywood cougar seems to be more attractive than real life cougars (sorry, someone had to say it).
